Where to start – our first Senja ski touring trip to the magic island exceeded all expectations… Rich has been coming here for a number of years now, new routing with climbing clients, as it’s a world class ice and mixed climbing venue. The ski touring here is equally as good though, with gorgeous scenery and superb summit to sea skiing all around the island.
We skied some great local classics recommended by Norwegian resident guide Bent, who’s lodge we were staying in – but during the week we also did 3 other new tours that he’d not yet explored, all of which were within 1/2 hr of the Lodge. Like the climbing, there really is so much good stuff to ski all over the island that plenty of it is still waiting to be explored.
Sure, the skiing was great, but it’s the wilderness and scenery that really sets Senja apart – with plunging fjords and stunning views across the arctic ocean. We saw reindeer, seas eagles a plenty and also the northern lights – it really is a magical island.
