Powder Skiing in La Grave

Just back from our La Grave Backcountry Ski Week, with excellent early season snow as usual.  We enjoyed 3 days at La Grave, still finding fresh lines right till the final run on the final day.  Other areas we visited were Puy St Vincent in order to lap the back slope off the Col de Bal – superb snow again – and a lovely full day tour in the Queyras.  Here, we put the skinning track back in over the of the Col du Peygus and enjoyed a virgin 1000m north facing powder descent back down to the valley – truly magical.

The La Grave lift lease comes up for renewal soon and as yet there’s no one bidding on it – so as ever the future of this unique area hangs in the balance.  If you’ve not skied there yet, then make you do before too long – as the ‘no pistes, no patrols, 100% freeride’ ethic at La Grave that makes it so special, will most likely not be repeated at any resort in the future.  Like everyone who loves the freedom of skiing at La Grave, we hope that it’s future will be secured before too long.
