Grand Lui Haute Route

Klemen and the team rounded off our Alpine ski touring season this year with a big week on the Grand Lui Haute Route – to quote Richard on the trip: ‘Klemen is a Machine’ – that’s quite a comment from an accomplished ultrarunner!

As if it’s not hard enough already, this years Grand Lui trip required quite a few changes of route due to the Chanrion Hut being closed and higher than normal spring avalanche risk, due all the snow this winter.  The first half of the route continued as normal, traversing across the north end of the Mont Blanc range via the Trient Hut and down to La Fouly, then up the Swiss Val Ferret and on to the Grand St Bernard Monastary.

After that the team headed southwards across the Col St Bernard and into Italy, then up the Valpelline in order to reach the Nacamuli hut and then finally rejoined the regular route across the Cols Brule and Valpeline in order to ski down to Zermatt.  All in all a long and hard weeks’ touring – top effort everyone!
