I’ve just finished out first intro alpine mountaineering course of the summer, so time for a few pics and a quick report. Pete and Rich, a couple of local Yorkshire fell runners, were our team for the week – so no problems on the fitness front then! The snow and glacier conditions are excellent at the moment, due to the very snowy spring this year – so we were treated to good climbing conditions all week. We did the usual broad mix of skills and training, whilst climbing alpine routes during the week, with ascents of Aiguille du Tour and Petit Fourche amongst others – see pics below – so all in all a good course.
As always, we tailor these weeks to each group’s aspirations – so this week the focus was on glacier travel and classic alpine F-PD terrain, as the guys are not rock climbers and are primarily interested in getting to the top of classic alpine summits and safely back down again!
