Austria's popular Silvretta range is perfect ski touring terrain - with steady climbs, good descents and a fine selection of accessible peaks. The region also has one of the finest hut networks in the Alps - with hot showers and restaurant service being the norm.
We offer this itinerary as a private guiding special - with dates by arrangement from mid March into April. Prices are as per our private guiding rates, up to a maximum of 6 skiers per guide.
Starting Point We meet in Mathon, Ischgyl - returning to the same point at the end of the tour.
Sample ItinerarySubject to snow conditions:
Day 0

Silvrettahorn (3244m)
Piz Buin (3312m)
Dreilanderspitze (3176m)
Fri PM Ski down out of the range and enjoy a unique skidoo 'shuttle service' towing us the final few km of flat terrain back to the road.
Food and AccommodationThis is tour is run on a private guiding basis, so food and accommodation (for yourself and the guide) must be paid for as we go along. The area has some of the best appointed huts in the Alps, with hot showers and restaurant service the norm.
Travel The area is most easily reached via a BA flight from Gatwick - Innsbruck from where a transfer can be made. Contrary to what you might expect, these BA flights are usually cheaper than equivalent ryanair/easyjet ones to airports furthur afield that involve a longer transfer.
Fitness Ski mountaineering requires good levels of fitness and stamina (see fitness level 2+) - so we advise you to prepare well in advance with regular cardiovascular training and ideally some skiing.
Skiing Ability You need to be an competent off piste skier (see: ski ability level 2-3) ideally with some previous touring experience as we will be skinning for 3 hours a day (though particularly strong skiers can pick these up with extra coaching at the start of the week if neccesary).
Equipment We will supply you with a full kit list. You are responsible for bringing personal clothing, a rucsac and ski mountaineering skis, boots and kit (local hire is available). We are delighted to be working on this tour with Back Country UK, who provide excellent service and advice as a leading retailer of ski mountaineering equipment in the UK.
