Scottish Winter Mountaineering

Our Scottish winter mountaineering courses are suitable for all levels and abilities and include winter skills weekends, winter mountaineering courses, ice and mixed climbing plus performance winter climbing courses. The majority of courses run during the main winter climbing season from January to March and are based in the highland centre of Fort William, in the shadow of Ben Nevis.

Scottish Winter Mountaineering Courses
PLEASE NOTE: Most of our scottish winter courses are booked on a tailor made basis, as per private guiding rates and conditions - ie you book a guide for the required number of days and we organise your own private training course.

Hiring a Guide
When you hire a private guide you can go anywhere and do anything you want (subject to weather, conditions and experience!) This is the major advantage of booking your trip in this way and one we feel should be fully exploited. If you want recommendations for suitable climbs then we can easily suggest a program for you - or we can plan the trip together around your chosen objectives.

Guides Expenses
During the week you are responsible for meeting the guides expenses - ie any cable cars, travel, or parking costs. If you wish to make use of the guides vehicle, then fuel needs to be paid for at cost.

Important
Please remember, you need both the required fitness level and mountain experience level in order to enjoy a particular course - as our guides have to judge your abilities before embarking on any serious ascent (current weather and mountain conditions are also taken into account). If they decide that a particular objective should not be attempted, then a good alternative will always be offered. If your fitness or skills are in doubt however, we may have to exclude you from certain activities. It is very unusual for us to have to do this, but it can occur if you are not realistic about your current experience or fitness levels - or you do not prepare sufficiently for the trip.
