"Tailor made courses and private guiding are our big specialism - accounting for over half of our work each year. These vary from long weekends in resorts such as Chamonix, to a week or more completing your own bespoke itinerary, or climbing a long standing personal ambition."
When you hire a private guide you can go anywhere and do anything you want (subject to weather, conditions and experience!) This is the major advantage of booking your trip in this way and one we feel should be fully exploited.
If you want recommendations for suitable climbs then we can easily suggest a program for you - or we can plan the trip together around your chosen objectives. Often we are asked to organise personalised versions of trips and courses on our current alpine program - but numerous other options are available. Below we show a selection of other alpine climbing itineraries that we can recommend.
Standard Guiding Rates
Standard guiding rates apply for most alpine routes up to grade D and include guiding fees and use of the guides car (unless negotiated otherwise). For current private guiding rates please take a look at our alpine dates and prices page.
Premium Guiding Rates
For longer, more involved routes at grade D or above, premium guiding rates may apply and are paid as a supplement on a per route basis. As a guideline, routes that involve one of the following will generally fall into this category:
more than a 10-12hr day
a bivouac
over 500m of pitched climbing
grade TD or above
Eg. the Italian and Hornli Ridges on the Matterhorn are (at the upper end of) standard rate guiding routes, whereas the Zmutt Ridge and N Face are both premium rate routes for which we quote on an individual basis.
Guides Expenses
During the week you are responsible for meeting the guides expenses. This includes: uplift (cable cars etc), mountain huts at half board, fuel at cost, general expenses (road/tunnel tolls etc) and valley hotel expenses half board if you stay outside of the guides seasonal valley base (this base is Chamonix in most cases) - most huts and cable cars charge a substantially discounted rate for the guide.
