There's nothing to beat an alpine dawn seen from on high. A fine reward for the early starts and long hours of effort required to climb these magnificent peaks. Such moments stay in the memory forever and are justification enough for any trip to the Alps. The great ridges and faces, fine summits and snow and ice all year round are an irresistible combination for those up to the challenge. (see - alpine climbing photos).
Alpine Program Our Alpine mountaineering courses include all the great classics of the Alps such as Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn and the Eiger - in addition to introductory alpine climbing courses, 4000m peaks, alpine rock climbing and north faces. We carefully plan and grade all itineraries and stick to low guiding ratiosall week. This 'no short cuts' approach enables you to properly develop your personal skills and do far more climbing during the week.
Specials and Private GuidingA significant part of our alpine program involves custom itineraries for private clients. In the main summer season this is organised on a 5-6 day basis, but outside these times we specialize in long weekends and winter alpinism. The latter appeals to accomplished climbers looking for the ultimate challenge - check out our private guiding section for availability and specials with top name guides.
Alpine Mountaineering CourseSuitability To help you select an appropriate trip, the table below shows fitness and experience levels needed for our various alpine mountaineering courses. We suggest you a look at what's on offer, then contact us if you have furthur questions or queries about particular itineraries, or whether you've got the neccesary experience - as a quick chat with one of our team will help confirm if it's the right one for you.
Important: Please remember, you need both the required fitness level and mountain experience level in order to enjoy a particular course - as our guides have to judge your abilities before embarking on any serious ascent (current weather and mountain conditions are also taken into account). If they decide that a particular objective should not be attempted, then a good alternative will always be offered. (If your fitness or skills are in doubt however, we may have to exclude you from certain activities. It is very unusual for us to do this, but it can occur if you are not realistic about your current experience or fitness levels - or you do not prepare sufficiently beforehand.)
Food and Accommodation We run all of our courses on a guiding & instruction only basis to allow people maximum flexibility with accomodation options. ie you must pay for these items directly with the local supplier as they are not included in the course fee. In all the areas we visit however, we have a recommended hotel where the majority of our clients choose to stay. In the Chamonix Valley this is the friendly Hotel Les Lanchers**(see photos) in Les Praz de Chamonix, run by ex pat Jon Rodgers (if you'd like to share a twin room with a fellow course member, the manager will also happily pair you up as required) but you are completely free to make whatever arrangements you choose (a selection of other accommodation options is also included in each joining pack).
Travel Full travel details are provided with your joining instructions, including flight recommendations and resort transfer information. Our main summer base in Chamonix is easily reached by a flight to Geneva and an Airport Transfer, both of which can be easily booked online.
Our Alpine Climbing Background
Alpine climbing really is our core activity in the year. For all of our team, alpinism is an ongoing passion that has ruled our lives, friendships and careers for many years.
Although in our spare time we may seek out first ascents in the Alps and Greater Ranges, we also derive as much pleasure from introducing new comers to the sport and helping people fulfill their longstanding ambitions.
It's this total enthusiasm for the sport that is one of our key strengths in giving you the best days out on the hill. For us - guiding simply is the best job in the world. Their are few professions where you get to give people experiences that they will remember for the rest of their lives - but this is one.
