Our Technical Alpine Climbing course is ideal for established UK climbers or those who have tried classic alpine mountaineering and now want to take on bigger objectives.  The training program focuses on acquiring fast and efficient climbing style for different types of alpine terrain, as well as covering techniques for multi pitch abseil descents, route planning and advanced crevasse rescue skills.

Our low 2:1 ratio gives flexibility to tailor each course to individual requirements and is excellent preparation for undertaking more technical mountain ascents.  Typical routes climbed on the course are in the range PD+ to D depending on conditions and ability (see: tech alpine course photos).

Course Feedback " Thanks Guys, it was a real pleasure climbing with both of you - and an education! I'll be in touch before the end of the year to have a chat about Scotland and next year in the Alps " AM Tech Alpine '04

" thoroughly enjoyed the course, had a fantastic week and we're itching to get back next year to do some routes ourselves. It was certainly scary to see how pedestrian we were compared to the experts in ropework, belay setting etc. Learn't a lot. It was good to do the crevasse rescue drills on the way to the hut which maximised the time on the mountains " RB Tech Alpine '06

Alpine Climbing Days.

Ascents of technical climbs in the Mt Blanc range with 2 nights spent in alpine huts.

During this time we look at safe and efficient travel over different types of alpine terrain:

Rock, ice, snow, ridges etc including skills such as taking in coils, short pitching, moving together, abseil descents and advanced crevasse rescue.

Food and Accommodation We run all of our courses on a guiding & instruction only basis to allow you maximum flexibility with accommodation options. Our recommended hotel in Chamonix is the Hotel Les Lanchers ** (see photos) in Chamonix Les Praz, run but friendly ex-pat Jon Rodgers - who we will happily put you in touch with if you'd like to reserve a room. You are however free to make whatever accommodation arrangements you like. A number of nights are also spent in Alpine huts to maximise climbing time during the week. Your guide will book these as necessary & you simply pay for hut fees direct as you go along (the guides car fuel, hut and uplift expenses are all covered within the course budget).

Travel  Full travel details are provided with your joining instructions. Chamonix is easily reached by flights to Geneva and an airport transfer, both of which are bookable online.

Fitness  Alpine mountaineering requires good levels of fitness & stamina (see fitness level 2-3) so we advise you to prepare well in advance with days out in the UK hills or other regular exercise and some climbing training.  Pre acclimatisation for this course is non essential.

Experience  To get the most out of this course you need to either have prior alpine experience, or have climbed at least Scottish II in winter and Severe on rock in the UK (or equivalent).

Equipment  All communal safety equipment (ropes etc) is provided by us.  You are expected to come equiped with personal clothing and climbing equipment. Local equipment hire (including boots) is also available.
